Designed in 2002, the Autumn Hooker made its debut in 2003 on Miðfjarðará in Iceland. Alongside my friend Jóhannes Hinriksson, we witnessed extraordinary catch results with this fly, accounting for around 90% of the fish in the group — a trend that has continued over the years.
This fly has earned its reputation as a well-established, preferred, and proven "safe play" both in Iceland and abroad. Despite its name, the Autumn Hooker isn't confined to one season; it performs excellently in spring and summer, making it a versatile all-season and all-round fly. If I had to choose one fly to have in my box for the rest of my life, the Autumn Hooker would be it.
Similar to the Radian, the Autumn Hooker works best when crafted with Artic Runner as the wing material.
