The Tin Tin stands out as one of the most exceptional flies in my collection. Its innovative and distinctive design features "hands" made from Jungle Cock cape feathers, which come to life in moving water. Coupled with its outstanding shape and silhouette—key aspects visible to the fish—it becomes a fly like no other. This uniqueness makes it a compelling choice for late-season fish that have encountered all the typical patterns or even for enticing a fresh salmon that seems unmoved by other offerings.
The Tin Tin made its inaugural appearance in 2011 on the waters of River Vatnsdalsá. A sizable fish was elusive in the Holakvörn pool until I introduced this peculiar-looking fly with antennae-like features. It immediately captured the fish's attention, leading to a successful encounter and a happy angler cradling a perfect 108 cm salmon—the first catch on this distinctive fly.
